HOW WE WORK

All Self Managed Superannuation funds are required to have the financial accounts and statements of the SMSF audited each year by an approved auditor.  In addition, the approved auditor is required to assess the fund's overall compliance with Superannuation Law (compliance audit).  The audit report is required to be completed the day before the Fund is required to lodge its combined income tax and regulatory return.  Auditors must provide a certificate to the trustees stating that the fund has been audited.

Auditors are obliged to bring to the attention of the trustees any concerns about the Fund's financial position or the Fund's compliance with Superannuation Law.  If an auditor is not satisfied that the trustees have taken appropriate action to rectify any issues raised, they must inform the Australian Taxation Office through issuing a contravention report.

The trustees can appoint any 'approved auditor' to perform their SMSF audit.  As a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAA), a CA SMSF Specialist, and SMSF Association member, Lana Edmonds is an ASIC approved auditor, who meets the ongoing training requirements for Self Managed Superannuation Fund auditing required by both the ATO and the Institute of Chartered Accountants on an annual basis.
